This Privacy Policy describes how SubQuester ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and discloses your information when you use our mobile application (the "App").

1. Information We Collect

We believe in minimizing data collection. The App is designed to store most data locally on your device.

a. Location Data

The App uses your device's location services to:

  • Generate location-based quests.
  • Verify check-ins at specific Points of Interest (POIs).
  • Show your current location on the map.

We do not store your location history on our servers. Your current location is processed on your device and may be sent to Apple Maps to retrieve Point of Interest data, but it is not permanently logged by us for tracking purposes.

b. Photos and Camera Access

The App requests access to your camera and photo library to allow you to:

  • Capture photos for your photo journal.
  • Save memories from your quests.

These photos are stored locally on your device (and potentially your personal iCloud, depending on your device settings). We do not have access to your private photos.

c. Usage Data and Preferences

We collect data about your interactions with the App, such as:

  • Travel interests (e.g., Food, Culture, Nature).
  • Quest progress and achievements (XP, badges).
  • App settings (e.g., travel style).

This data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData/CoreData.

d. In-App Purchase Information

All financial transactions are handled directly by the Apple App Store. We do not process or store your credit card information. We receive a receipt from Apple to validate your "Pro" purchase.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and improve the App's functionality.
  • Personalize your quests based on your interests and location.
  • Manage your specific trip data and journal entries.
  • Verify your eligibility for Pro features.

3. Data Storage and Sharing

a. Local Storage

The majority of your data (journals, preferences, quest history) is stored locally on your device.

b. iCloud

If you have iCloud enabled, your data may sync across your devices via your private iCloud account. We do not have access to your iCloud data.

c. Third-Party Services

  • Apple Maps: We use Apple Maps to search for places and display maps. Your location data is shared with Apple in accordance with their privacy policy when you use these features.
  • We use Firebase to help us understand how people use the App.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Safety and Physical Travel

SubQuester encourages real-world travel. Please be aware of your surroundings and local laws. We are not responsible for your safety while you are completing quests.

5. Children's Privacy

Our App is not intended for children under the age of 4. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

6. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
